The ninth of June is an important date in Geordie history. It is the date associated with the Blaydon Races, and for Newcastle United supporter Marc, it seemed the perfect day to marry Georgina—although I’m not entirely sure she knew the full reasoning behind it at first.
Wedding preparations in Peckham
The morning began in South London, with Marc getting suited and booted alongside his twin brother and best man, Chris.
Meanwhile, Georgina prepared for the day in an incredible Peckham property previously featured on Grand Designs. Once everyone was ready, the bridal party travelled to the ceremony in a traditional London black cab.
A wedding ceremony at The Asylum, Peckham
Marc and Georgina held their ceremony at The Asylum in Peckham, one of the most distinctive wedding venues in London.
The Grade II-listed building dates back to 1826 and still bears the marks of bomb damage sustained during the Second World War. Its weathered walls, tall windows and faded architectural details create an extraordinary atmosphere for wedding photography.
Before entering, Georgina shared a quiet moment outside with her dad. He then walked her down the aisle towards Marc, who was waiting inside in a particularly impressive pair of Gucci loafers.
Light poured through the windows throughout the ceremony, filling the chapel and highlighting the texture and character of the building.
Celebrating across London
After the ceremony, guests gathered outside in the summer sunshine for canapés and Aperol Spritz before boarding a traditional red London bus.
The celebrations continued at a peaceful canalside venue, where everyone gathered for the wedding breakfast and speeches from Marc, Georgina’s dad, best man Chris and Georgina herself.
Later, the party carried on well into the night, with music provided by North East funk and soul favourites Smoove & Turrell.
Marc and Georgina’s wedding combined Newcastle character, London architecture and a brilliant group of friends and family. It was a pleasure to travel south and photograph such a memorable day.
